The Days of Noah

Matthew 24:37-39

(Matthew Ch. 24-25; Genesis Ch. 4-6)

Introduction: Last week began our study of “The Days of Noah” by looking at a “Spiritual Decline.” This week we are going to look at the results of that “Spiritual Decline” it is a “Social Dilemma.” When we lower the values we live by the result will always be a decline in the behavior we exhibit. There is “Social Dilemma” all around us; unfortunately we don’t see it as such. Tonight let’s take a look at part two of “The Days of Noah” Let’s look at…

II.                A Social Dilemma

When you think of wickedness what do you think of? There are many answers to this question, as many as the people who seriously think about the question and their life experiences. The Lord tells us before He returns our world will look like it did during the days of Noah. There will be a serious social dilemma, society will be degenerate. Several things took place during Noah’s day and likewise these same issues will be repeated before the Lord returns for His church. First there will be…

A.   Great Apostasy (Genesis 6:1-3)

Apostasy is “An abandonment of what one has professed; a total desertion, or departure from one's faith or religion.” This speaks of religious people those who know about God and the Lord Jesus Christ. Just as “the sons of God saw the daughters of men…” and chose them as wives. God’s lineage had chosen a worldly walk. Before the Lord returns there will be a falling away by those who profess a Christianity they do no possess.

Just as we see a great apostasy coming we see what accompanies it is a…

B.   Godless Activity (Genesis 6:4)

In Genesis when a godly bloodline and an ungodly bloodline chose to join and bring about a generation of offspring they became mighty men. In other words the spiritual implications of their deeds were of no concerns. There became a generation of men and women who did not know God and therefore had no direction toward godly behavior.

Note:I was in the first generation of people in this country that was told “you don’t have to go to church if you don’t want too.” Our current generation of young folks is being told church isn’t necessary for them to be a good person. What will the next generation be told? Look around you; listen to the news and pay close attention, godless activity is all around us. How long until God says enough? In Genesis 6:3 God said enough and set a timeline of 120 years for that crowd. From a great apostasy and a godless activity we see the development of a…

C.   Growing Anarchy (Genesis 6:5-7)

Anarchy is “Want of government; a state of society, when there is no law or supreme power, or when the laws are not efficient, and individuals do what they please with impunity; political confusion.” That’s exactly what was going on in verses 5-7, the government of God no longer held any authority in the lives of men and women. It wasn’t just behavior that was corrupt it was the very hearts of everyone, including the children. This anarchy was so great that the actions of man forced God to action; His decision was to destroy mankind.

Note: The world you and I live in is on the road to anarchy, frankly we have been on this road for quite some time. God has less and less authority in the lives of people, that is frightening. In 2Ti 3:5 we see Paul telling Timothy that people are guilty of “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” These will be a contagious people, Paul warned to stay away from them. Anarchy is among us.

III.    A Shameful Depravity

IV.    A Scientific Discovery

V.     A Strong Deception

VI.    A Sincere Devotion

VII.   A Sudden Destruction

Conclusion: Apostasy, godless activity and anarchy what a society to live in. Noah did and he remained righteous. You see amidst all this gloom and doom God had a remnant. Amidst the gloom and doom of today God has a remnant, the true church, those who are truly born again by the blood of Jesus Christ. How do we know? Honestly, the Lord tells us we will know a tree by the fruit it bears. Also don’t try to figure out what God already knows. The church needs to do it job, fulfill the great commission, be spirit filled and spirit led. If we worry about our walk with God and allow Him to use us as a testimony of Salvation, Grace and Mercy, then the rest will take care of itself.
