The Days of Noah
Matthew 24:37-39
(Matthew Ch. 24-25; Genesis Ch. 4-6)
Tonight we will look at items 3, 4 and 5 from our main list
Introduction: There’s plenty to be consumed with in this world, but how much of it actually lifts up the Lord Jesus Christ. As we continue our look into the days of Noah were going to see a bleak picture of Noah’s world and at the same time were going to see a bleak picture of the world we live in today. It may shock you, it may awaken you or it may remind you but regardless of how it touches you it will be a true account of the world we live in. As with any dark cloud there is a silver lining and this message will have one too. First we need to see how the days of Noah compare to our world first we see…
“Every imagination of the thoughts of [mans] heart was only evil continually”
Is the Holy Spirit’s comment of the world during Noah’s day. Depravity is “A vitiated state of the heart; wickedness; corruption of moral principles; destitution of holiness or good principles.” Two behaviors can be identified in scriptures, they are…
Lamech became the worlds first polygamist believing he could do as he pleased concerning the number of wives he had. Sexual sin among adults seemed to define itself during this age, it began with the marriage.
Today polygamy may be illegal [for now] but that doesn’t stop men and women from living a life of immorality. It is so accepted today that websites exist which promote adultery and encourage men and women to seek out additional partners.
Just as sexual sin began with marriage it progressed with lust and desire. Vile imaginations filled the thoughts of man.
Today those same vile imaginations are multiplied many times over. Pornography is so accepted in our society today that cable, satellite and video rentals have the trash titled and available without any shame or concern. Our youth have even gotten into the act with something called sexting, where sexual pictures of themselves are sent to selected individuals.
From a shameful
depravity we see …
Many think this era of time had man as some ignorant being that could barely take care of themselves. The word of God tells us a different story. Man could think, build, create and explore into things that was repulsive to God.
Lamech’s son Tubal-cain discovered the secret of smelting and other metals. This discovery created many useful items but it also created idols and man made things that took over the interests of man. (Gen. 4:22)
Jabal another one of Lamech’s family members developed domestication of cattle, that’s right man no longer had to hunt for food; he could raise it and kill it when needed. (Gen. 4:20)
Another of Lamech’s sons Jubal invented stringed and wind instruments. What’s wrong with this one may ask, nothing if it is handled properly but we know from scripture it wasn’t. Music was used to lure men and women into sin, just as it is today.
We have seen a
shameful depravity and a scientific discovery next we need to realize there is
…
In Matthew 24:39 Jesus tells us the people of Noah’s day “knew not.” They were so involved in the world they just didn’t pay attention to the wrong they were participating in. That’s not an excuse, its just a fact concerning the condition of their heart.
Today men and women could care less about the things of God, church, worship, godly living; all of it means very little today. You can find more people at a restaurant around 10 AM than you can in most churches parking lots. This can be attributed to…
Secularism is “Worldliness; supreme attention to the things of the present life.” Jesus tells us in Matthew 24:38 that “they were “eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage.” These are legitimate things, but they were used by man in a sinful way.
Today we are finding new ways to turn common ordinary things in sin. We are a secular society that has chosen to turn our hearts away from God. If God can get glory from it you can bet Satan will someone who will pervert it and make sin of it.
Demons were present in Noah’s day; there were spiritists and mediums practicing during this time. It was a time of spiritual wonders, but they didn’t come from God.
Today we are bombarded with psychics, palm readers, astrology and may other demonic practices. We have television shows that give us necromancy (talking with the dead) and modern day ghost hunters. While these are marketed as entertainment they are nothing more than demonic activity. Movies like Harry Potter, Angels and Demons and the Divinci Code are all movies that focus on the supernatural. We are a society obsessed with the supernatural.
Conclusion: With the depravity, discoveries and deception in our world today it should not bother any Christian to hear about the rapture. Actually when we hear about the real condition of this world the Lord’s coming should be welcome. The sweet thoughts of going home to be with the Lord should be a welcome idea. Church its time to get excited about the Lord and His return for the saved. Lets get prayed up and picked up so we can be looking up, the Lord can come any day.
