The Days of Noah

Matthew 24:37-39

(Matthew Ch. 24-25; Genesis Ch. 4-6)

Introduction: As we continue our study of “The Rapture and end time events” we are going to study a statement made by the Lord Himself. According to Matthew 24:37-39  But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark. And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” These are very important prophetic words that affect our lives today, yet very little have been said regarding their impact upon the day we live in. For the next seven weeks we are going to look at “The Days of Noah” and how they relate to the last days before the Lord returns to rapture His church. I have found this study very interesting and eye opening concerning the insight the Lord has given us if we just take the time to study it and rightfully apply to our day and age. Let’s begin by looking at…

I.           A Spiritual Decline (Genesis Ch. 4-5)

Prophecy is directly tied to biblical history and genealogy through this part of our study. You see Adam and Eve had started as a Godly bloodline; however Cain had distorted it into another gospel through his corrupt offerings and the murder of his brother Abel. By the time we reach Noah’s day true faith had all but disappeared from the face of the earth.

A.   An outward appearance

Cain’s family tree as given in Genesis contains several names that have the suffix, el, which is an abbreviation of the divine name Elohim, the name of the true and living God, the God of creation. We can claim the name of God just as Cain had tried to do after he revealed where his heart was, but we can never lay claim to relationship with God apart from following His direction. In Noah’s day it was through the blood and today it is through the blood as well. Then it was the blood of animal sacrifice, today it is the blood of Jesus Christ. An outward appearance is no good if there is no inward attachment.

B.   An inward knowledge

Seth’s line shows the opposite, a knowledge and love of God that remained unto the day of Noah. For Generations the Sethites had carried the torch of godly testimony in a world that was growing increasingly evil. The bloodline of Seth climaxed with Enoch, who was translated to heaven by what we would call rapture, then through Noah who took a handful of believers and was the only survivors of God’s water judgment upon this earth.

Note of Interest

The ancient world was not one of cavemen as evolutionists would have you believe; instead it was one of action and innovation by the enterprising and godless cainites. They built cities, were inventors and innovators of advancing their civilization. Cainites controlled social, political and secular power. World opinion was not shaped by moral majority; instead by the people who embraced an age of spiritual decline.

In the weeks to come we will look at the following areas.

II.        A Social Dilemma

III.      A Shameful Depravity

IV.    A Scientific Discovery

V.       A Strong Deception

VI.    A Sincere Devotion

VII.          A Sudden Destruction

Conclusion: The church today is trying to put on an outward appearance that is attractive to the world. This is wrong, I realize the intentions may be good but giving an appearance of worldly, carnal and materialistic acceptance violates the word of God. The church is not in the business of being a Sunday morning social club or providing entertainment, we exist to worship God and spread His gospel through the testimony of His son Jesus Christ. Having only an outward appearance is hypocritical at best and even crosses the line of heresy. There is an inward knowledge that born again Christians share, the knowledge of a relationship with Jesus Christ. A proper outward appearance can only be based upon an inward knowledge of Jesus Christ. True salvation will show in our day to day life. Just as it did with Cain and Seth, through the blood of Jesus we can be the people that He use’s to show the world His promise that a raptured church is not mythical but as real as His promise to Noah concerning the flood.
