The Days of Noah
Matthew 24:37-39
(Matthew Ch. 24-25; Genesis Ch. 4-6)
Tonight we will look at item 6 from our main list
Introduction: As we have progressed through the days of Noah we have seen a picture of personal depravity, social development and strong delusion a very dark picture of the world Noah knew. It is also a picture of the world you and I know as well, some 6,000 years have gone by and kingdoms have risen and fallen but mankind has remained the same, sinful. In the darkness of each generation there has been a light shinning through, the devotion of a remnant that will not bow to any god except Jehovah Himself. Tonight we are going to look at that remnant; the faithful witness of God’s dedicated few. For a few minutes tonight let’s look at…
God never leaves Himself without a witness, a godly people who will not knowingly or willingly disobey God. As we study the Bible we find the more degenerate a generation is the more definite the testimony of Gods people is. We also see the witness of Gods people takes the form of faithful preaching and fulfilled prophecy, the greater the depravity the greater the devotion. We see both of these demonstrated in the pre-flood society.
According to 2 Peter 2:5 “And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;” Just like Enoch, Noah preached the coming judgment to his generation. The people were warned about sin, the need for righteousness and the nearness of judgment. To the extent God had enlightened him Noah warned the people about their coming peril, if they didn’t repent. Today more than ever before we need men and women dedicated to a sincere devotion of God’s word, God’s will and God’s way. Our world today is full of sin; there is homosexuality, pornography, adultery, deception, lies, murder and the list goes on and on. We too have God’s promise of judgment upon this age, just as He promised judgment upon Noah’s age. God needs His people to step up and stand against sin during the closing moments of this age, will you stand up and be Noah to the age we live in?
As Noah’s day drew darker and darker, his work progressed on
the
The fulfilled prophecy of Noah’s age was the death of Methuselah (Gen. 5:21-32), his father was Enoch and he had many children one of them was Lamech who we talked about last week and another was Noah. The generation after Methuselah was the generation of judgment. Just in case you didn’t know it Methuselah means “when he dies, it shall come.” The life, ministry, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus was the fulfilled prophecy of our age and I believe we are in the generation that will see the rapture, the tribulation and the millennium. It is necessary for you and I to understand and take seriously the great commission of our Lord Jesus Christ. Like Noah we cannot make people seek the Lord but we can be consistent in our testimony for the Lord.
Conclusion: Are you prepared for the exciting journey that lay ahead? As a born again Christian you are part of the people who share a sincere devotion. There are people around us every day who are morally good, they are honest, kind, loving and even full of charity but they do not know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. What a shame it is to think of those people going to an eternal hell because they have refused to get saved. It happened in Noah’s day and it is happening in our day as well. Now for the real question of the evening; are we concerned enough to go after them, tell about Jesus and ask them to get saved? Are you prepared to lead them to Christ if they accept? Are you prepared to be Noah for the age we live in?
