A manly Walk

Psalm 1:1-2

Psalm 1:1-2  Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. {ungodly: or, wicked}  2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Theme: Appreciating godly men in an ungodly society.

Intro: As we celebrate father’s day and look forward to an afternoon of fellowship with our family it’s easy for us to forget something. Families of the father’s in this congregation have a lot to be thankful for. Not because these father’s are sanctified or spiritually superior in any way, no, the father’s sitting in this congregation are merely flesh and bone. But, they are here in God’s house this morning and that says a lot. Today they chose to hear the teaching and preaching of God’s word over the many options our world placed before them. Influences from our society have altered the picture of a man and a father. I want us to revisit this morning God’s picture of a man and from that, I believe we can also see God’s picture of a father. The scripture I have chosen for today lets us see through the Psalmist eyes the attributes of a manly walk. He begins with the word blessed. In itself, this is a word with deep meaning and one which sets the stage for our message.

Blessed comes from the Hebrew word 'esher {eh'-sher}

Meaning:  1) happiness, blessedness 1a) often used as interjection 1b) blessed are

Charles Spurgeon has this to say about the word blessed, “We might read it, ‘Oh, the blessedness!” and we may well regard it as a joyful acclamation of the gracious mans felicity. May the like benediction rest on us.

Men can you say this morning you are blessed? Our scripture tells us what a blessed man is and is not! Let’s look first at what...

Conc. Folks we hear a lot about the ungodly things and people of this world and no doubt, they are there. But we have a lot of godly men still among us, we need to realize it and advertise it among our community to encourage the influence God wants from us. Men we need to heed the words put before us this morning and make sure that our lives are really, what we present them to be. Is our testimony before God the same as our testimony before men? As we close our service this morning I would like to something a little different and ask all the fathers and men in our congregation to come to the alter if your visiting with us you’re welcome as well. Close with an invitation as God leads.
