The promise of a return

I Thessalonians 4:13-18

Introduction: Have you ever had someone make a promise and break it? Have you ever made a promise and broken it to someone? I believe all of us can say yes to both of these questions. Well God doesn’t break promises, He will keep them as sure as eternity is eternity God is as good as His word. If we can agree on that why then do we spend so much time in worry and doubt? We seem to worry about no knowing Gods plans then if we get a glimpse of them we worry about how our lives fall into them. We are not the first people who have dealt with this, the folks of Thessalonica dealt with it long before you and I considered it. Thankfully the Apostle Paul answered their fear and doubt and the Lord left that answer for you and I gain some encouragement from. I realize every believer knows that Jesus will return for His church and rapture it away and that we cannot know when this will take place. There are some things we can know and Paul gives them to us three things that should give us peace, comfort and contentment about the age we live in and the promise of a brighter tomorrow. Today I want us to look at the three promises the Lord made concerning His promise to return. First we have…

I.       The promise of knowledge V.13

A.   Drives away ignorance

B.   Soothes away fear

II.    The promise of eternal life V.v. 14-15

A.   The Promise of life to those who have believed

B.   The Promise of life to those who do believe

III.  The promise of a rapture V.v. 16-18

A.   Is personal with Christ

B.   Is personal for the believer

Conclusion: The Bible promises the child of God many things and we can depend on all of them. What we have looked at today is the Lord’s promise to His church that there will be a time when He will call His church home. Who will get called? Has been a question ask by many people, we have learned today it is those who believe that Jesus died and rose again. To better understand this Roman’s 10:9-10 tells us “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”  Confess our sin according to Act 3:19 “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;” Do you want to be in the number of those who are raptured when Jesus comes for His church? You can be and you can know beyond the shadow of a doubt that you are saved and going to be with the Lord 1Jn 2:21 tells us “I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.” If you know you are saved today then rejoice and look up because your redemption draws nigh, if you don’t know, don’t leave here today without making sure. Close as the Holy Spirit leads.
