The CROWN OF GLORY is for Shepherding the Flock and taking care of others. It is mainly
thought of as the Pastors Crown. Actually it applies to pastoral care and not
the office of pastor. Pastoral care can and does involve all of us. Every
person has the responsibility and opportunity to care for another person in
some way shape form or fashion. There are some specific directions in God’s
word for us Pastors and we will examine them along with the applications used
most often today.
Ø
Scriptural
basis: “Feed the flock of
God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but
willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; Neither as being lords
over God's heritage, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief
Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away”.
Ø
Today many pastors
have an, us and them mentality, meaning they feel like they are better than the
rest of the church. Today many pastors are searching only for financial gain
and will jump ship at any offer they deem as better. Today many pastors preach
one thing and live something entirely different. These pastors will not receive
this crown.
Ø
Souls not only need
to be won, they need to be cared for.
Ø
Every one is saved
to serve. How do we serve in this capacity?
Ø Look at what Jesus says in Matt. 25: 34-40 “Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed
of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the
world: For I was hungry, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me
drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was
sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the
righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a
stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed
thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King
shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye
have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto
me.
Ø
There are all kinds
of “sheep” in this world and they all need a sheepfold and a shepherd.
Ø
Whatever we do for
others we do as unto the Lord. If we do it with the right attitude and from the
heart, because the love of Christ constrains us, then it is noted in heaven, it
is registered to our account.
Ø
Serving does not
save us but we serve because we are saved!
Ø
Look at what Prov. 28:27 says: “He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack”:
Ø
A practical
application of this truth is working around the church. Taking ownership and
pride in that which is ours. Seeing something that needs doing and doing it.
CONCLUSION: How many crowns are you striving to receive?
Striving for the crowns will only be
successful through the power and direction of the Holy Spirit!
What
will you do with our crowns in heaven?
We will cast them at the feet
of the Lord Jesus. (Rev. 4:10) The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne,
and worship him that liveth forever and ever, and
cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
