The Seven I Wills of God

Exodus 6:1-8

Intro: Moses was struggling. He had answered Gods call for service, he confronted Pharaoh but Israel's situation was getting worse. Moses sought God and asks why? Why have you sent me?

God answers telling Moses things are about to change. Not only will Pharaoh let Israel go, he will run Israel out of town. God then spends some time with Moses reminding him of a few things.

(1)I am the Lord

(2)Abraham, Isaac and Jacob knew me as God Almighty, not as Jehovah (redeemer)

(3)Gods covenant with the patriarchs and that He remembered it.

God reminded Moses of something we need to remember today, He is still

in control. God told Moses to give Israel a message, one which consisted of seven “I Will's.”  Look with me as we see what God has for us in His seven “I Will's.”

I.      I Will bring them out from under their burden

(A) Israel had burdens inflicted by the Egyptians

(B) The Christian had burdens of

(1)A lost condition

(2)A conscious guilt

II.    I Will rid you of bondage

(Definition) Bondage is severing from a previous condition.

Illustration- If a slave were to be sold by a evil master to a kind master, a burden would be removed, but he would still be a slave!

    (A) For Israel.

He led them through the Red Sea seeing them safely to the other side and waited for the Egyptian army to follow. At the right time God dropped the waters, destroying the army and any chance Egypt had of ever possessing Israel as a slave again.

    (B) For Christians

(1)Jesus Christ removed sins burden

(2)Jesus Christ removed sins bondage

(3)Jesus Christ removed satans bondage

(4)Jesus Christ removed deaths bondage

III.  I Will redeem you

(Definition) Redeem means to purchase and set free.

(A) For Israel

     (1) Egypt paid the price of redemption through the ten plagues.

     (2) Egypt paid the price of redemption through their first born.

Likewise man's redemption comes from a first born, Jesus Christ Gods only son.

Christ's blood will redeem any that repent and accept it.

    (B) For Christians

            (1) The redeemed are purchased by incorruption; 1Pe 1:18  Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

1Pe 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

           (2) The redeemed are not their own; 1Co 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

          (3) We are redeemed with power. The same power that resurrected Jesus from the tomb, can redeem souls burdened in bondage of sin and headed to a devils hell.

IV. I Will take you for a people

    (A) Israel was

(1)       A covenant people

(2)       A nation of slaves

    (B) Christians are

              (1) A peculiar people set apart from the world.

             (2) A people with unmerited redemption.

V.  I Will be your God.

     (A) For Israel this meant

(1)       Protection- They were God's people

(2)       Guidance- He led out of Egypt, through the wilderness, into the promised land.

(3)       Provisions- He always provided water and food.

     (B) For Christians this means

             (1) He will be their God; 2Co 6:16  And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

(2)       Being preserved to the end, in spite of our ignorance, weakness, fickle attitudes and even our rebellion and failures.

VI.I Will bring you in unto the land.

        (A) For Israel this meant

(1) Leaving a land of bondage

(2) Entering a land of promised

(3) Deliverance from their enemies; i.e. Amalekites, Amonites, Og the king of Bashan, Balak and Balaam.

        (B) For Christians this means

(1) Leaving the world

(2) Leaving the flesh

(3) Promise of Heaven

VII. I will give you a heritage

       (A) For Israel this meant

(1) God promised it to Abraham

(2) Provided it through Moses

(3) Promised it for the future generations.

       (B) For Christians this means

(1) We have the earnest (down payment); Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Eph 1:14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

(2) It is a gift; Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

(3) It can’t be removed (see sealed from item 1)

Conc. I hope you can see that God's “I Will's” for Israel have as much to offer us as they did Israel. Is God telling you “I Will?”  I Will save you, remove that burden, free you from that bondage, redeem you, claim you for His own, be your God, bring you into a land, or give you a heritage. I can stand before you and testify to His truth He will do all of those and many more. But you must do something first you must seek Him. God didn't respond for Israel until they cried, you don't have to cry, just come and seek Him. Which of the “I Wills” can God do for you? (Invitation as God leads)
