A Study in Revelation

Message 3

Revelation 1:7-8

A conclusion of the matter

Rev 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

Rev 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Introduction: Have you ever ask the question, how will it all end? While you and I may not know the answer, there is one who does. Tonight we are going to look at the conclusion of the age of grace. We get a snap shot of what things will be like when our Lord returns to end the Great Tribulation. As we get further along with our study we will see details of our age but tonight we get to fast forward through the bad stuff to a happy ending. I believe God put this here to give us light at the end of the tunnel.

I.         Jesus eventual triumph

Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him

A.     It will be visible

God is not invisible, sure He has no physical feature but that does not mean we cannot see Him. We see Him through His creation, His commitment and His concern.

Likewise Jesus is not invisible; He physically walked upon this earth. He was crucified, He was physically resurrected, He physically ascended into heaven and one day He will physically return.

We see three things about His visible return

            1. He will come in the clouds

(His return will be public)

            2. He will be seen by everyone

(His return will be personal)

            3. He will be recognized by those who crucified Him

(His return will be powerful)

Not just by those who drove the nails, pierced His head and striped His back, but by those who have rejected Him throughout the ages.

II.       Jesus return will be victorious

and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him.

Men and women today are engaged in all sort of follies, immorality, deception, lies, cheating corruption, you name it. It will be much worse by the time Jesus returns (keep in mind that Jesus second coming ends the tribulation period and ushers in his millennium). Every nation will wail, the word wail means to moan or weep. Everyone world wide will be weeping, some because they realize their failure others because they realize they have been caught. Never the less there will be wailing.

III.      Jesus return will be an everlasting triumph

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending,

A.     Jesus is omniscient

I am Alpha and Omega,

Alpha and Omega is the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. Jesus is the first and final source of knowledge, understanding and wisdom. Man may be fooled, deceived, disputed, discredited, discouraged or disconcerted but not our Omniscient Lord.

B.     Jesus is Omnipresent

the beginning and the ending

When Jesus gave the great commission He said “Lo I am with you always…even unto the end of the world.” The Lord is present in the midst of any company of His people in any part of the world at any given moment of time.

C.    Jesus I Omnipotent

which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Jesus as “the almighty” is an expression that occurs only ten times in the New Testament, nine of them in Revelation. Remember during the tribulation everything has failed, the church is apostate, the government and social systems have failed and corruption looms everywhere, But the Lord has not failed, fallen or faltered, He is coming again. Jesus said “all power is given unto me” that my friend is an illustration of omnipotent, all powerful.

Conclusion: Through all of the bad times, bad people and bad circumstances the Lord will stand. Fulfilling His promise of a return and bringing victory to a climax. There will be many saved during this time and there will be many more who are deceived and reject the Lords final opportunity for eternal life. I hope and pray this church will continue to pray, work and be committed to seeing souls saved before it’s too late.
